Kata is a compact beach town where the sand, the minimarts, the massage shops and the Thai kitchens all sit within a few hundred metres of each other. You walk to Kata Beach in minutes, or to the night market and the small plazas around Kata Plaza. The bay swims calm from November to April and turns into a surf beach from May through October. Evenings here are low-key — bars with live music, a second quieter bay just south over the headland, and the hillsides behind town rising up with views down over the water.
