“We had a very good experience with Nattaya with finding the appropriate object for our family. She is very friendly, professional, committed and still at hand also after the move in process. Highly recommended!”
Living in Kata
Kata sits on Phuket's west coast, one bay south of Karon and one hill north of Nai Harn. It is really two beaches: Kata Yai, the longer of the two, with the small island of Koh Pu offshore, and quieter Kata Noi over the headland. The land climbs steeply between and above them, and that hillside is where the sea-view houses sit. Kata is a resort strip first and a residential address second, and our book here leans to rentals.
Kata Yai is wide and easy to swim in the dry months, with snorkelling around the rocks at either end. In the monsoon months it reverses: the swell comes in, Kata turns into one of the island's surf beaches, and rip currents make the red flags worth reading. Kata Noi, over the headland, is smaller and quieter. Behind the sand, Kata Centre is a short strip of restaurants, shops and small bars, busy in high season and noticeably slower in low season. Chalong, roughly ten kilometres southeast over the hill, has the supermarkets and the pier. Patong is about thirteen kilometres north, Phuket Town about seventeen, and the airport is the long run at close to fifty. Kata suits people who want a beach they can walk to without Patong's noise. It works less well for school-age families: the international schools sit around Chalong, Koh Kaew and Thalang, so mornings mean a drive. The hill roads are steep and narrow, hard work on a first scooter.
