Surin is a small beach on Phuket's west coast, part of the Cherng Talay area, with Bang Tao to the north and Kamala to the south. The sand runs about 800 metres. Across the road behind it the hillside begins almost at once, and the plots up there are where the sea views come from. The beachfront has been cleared twice, in 2016 and again in 2025, so the sand itself is bare now and what activity there is sits on the road behind and on the slopes above it.

The beach is the point here. Roughly 800 metres of sand, clear and calm from November to April, rough and red-flagged through the monsoon. Little remains on the sand itself: the vendors and beach clubs were cleared, most recently in May 2025, so shade comes from the casuarina and coconut trees and lunch means walking back to the road. Tukta, built on the rocks rather than the sand, is the one place left at the water. Laem Singh, the small cove towards Kamala, has had no road access since 2017 and is now reached by boat or a fifteen-minute scramble over the rocks from the south end of Surin. The roads behind the beach climb steeply into the hills, and what is open in the evening is a handful of restaurants and quiet bars, nothing on the scale of Patong. Patong is about 15 km south and the airport roughly 23 km north. The shops and supermarkets sit north in Cherng Talay around Boat Avenue, and the international schools families use are in the same Cherng Talay and Thalang area rather than in Surin. Surin suits people who want the beach and the calm and accept driving for the rest. It does not suit anyone who wants to walk their children to school or live inside a night scene.
