Cape Panwa is a hilly peninsula on Phuket's southeast coast, about twelve kilometres south of Phuket Town in Wichit. The Phuket Aquarium and its marine biological research centre sit at the end of the cape, and the Khao Khad viewpoint looks west over Chalong Bay. Roads here climb over the ridge rather than running along a beach strip. The cape is residential and hotel-led, with almost nothing commercial on it, and quiet by Phuket standards.

The water on this side is calm rather than surf, but it is not a swimming coast. Khao Khad, also called Panwa Beach, and Ao Yon are the beaches on the cape. The seabed at Khao Khad is dead coral, so it works better as a walking beach than a swimming one. Ao Yon is quiet and remote, well off the road. There is no shopping strip on the cape, so groceries and a choice of restaurants mean driving back up the road towards Phuket Town, twenty to thirty minutes depending on traffic. Chalong and its pier are across the bay to the west. Patong is about twenty-three kilometres away, thirty to forty minutes, and the airport is closer to an hour. No international school is on the cape; the nearest are inland in Wichit and Chalong, around twenty minutes by car. It suits people who want the water in view and are happy to drive for everything else. It does not suit anyone who wants a swimmable beach, shops or nightlife at the door.
